History

The doors were opened for business on July 6th, 1925, as The Onida National Bank. The first location was approximately one-half block north of the bank’s present location on the main street of Onida.

In 1930 the Onida National Bank merged with the First State Bank of Onida. The merger resulted in the bank moving to our present location. A short 11 years later, in 1941, we changed our name for the first time by converting from a national banking charter to a state charter. The result was dropping the “National” from our name thus becoming The Onida Bank.

Throughout the years, the bank has expanded, remodeled, and modernized its banking facility. During the year 1962 the brass security bars, which were added years earlier for protection from robbers, were removed from the teller area. In 2001 the name of the bank was changed for the second time in the bank’s history. The name Sunrise Bank Dakota moved the bank into the 21st century.

In 2014 the bank remodeled to accommodate new technology and add offices to better serve our customers. The original marble was kept and used throughout the bank. Combining the old and the new to build a  brighter future.

Sunrise Bank Dakota is grateful to have contributed to the growth and financial stability of Sully County and surrounding areas. We are proud of our past and look forward to continuing to build brighter futures for our patrons and the communities.
